The Express Review

A known crime fiction novel by millions, Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express  is not only intriguing, but initially a thrilling ride that keeps readers in tune and guessing up until the very last page (no pun intended on the "thrilling ride" comment). With the infamous protagonist Hercule Poirot taking charge on leading the investigation, the entire plot was based around a single man being murdered by a suspect (or suspects) on a train traveling throughout Europe. It was interesting being introduced to Hercule Poirot for the first time reading this, considering I've never read any Agatha Christie crime novels before. I find the steps that Poirot takes when solving a crime very strategical and can be recognized as a specific method used initially by him and him alone. This novel is structured into 3 parts: The Facts, The Evidence, and Hercule Poirot Sits Back and Thinks. I feel a majority of people are intimidated by the intellect a detective can hold when s...

Silent Awareness

The short scruff along your jawbone sticks out towards me as I caress the skin encompassing your face Soft pinpricks reminding me to steer gently along the paths that won't crumble underneath my pace The flutter behind your eyelids translates another dimension I wonder if I am apart of it or simply a foreigner On the outside looking in or awaiting the go ahead to venture further When your legs twitch and your knees buckle my curiosity is peaked and I am filled with powerlessness You can escape the world surrounding us and our troubles but they somehow follow you into the never-ending abyss I fall in love with you more everyday the unknowns after all this time render true I am thankful for whomever that you have stayed and I am reminded hereafter of just what makes you, you. - Jennifer

Worming

A snapshot in time-- clouds hovering waiting to break but when they do the unexpected happens A fresh start or a reminiscent day Which do you prefer-- the beginning of something unknown or the recollection of what has been? Movement through cracks between here and there. Not everything is appealing but what is, is questionable I wonder-- do we keep them around or move along without them, altogether? - JB

A Royal Review

"I must be who I am and people adjust to it. Don't try to rush or influence the decision. Do not let what you think they think of you make you stop and question everything you are. Surely between the various yous, you can find  that you not only have enough going for you to keep you going, but to 'take you far.' Maybe even to Alderaan and back,".  Reading Carrie Fisher's memoir The Princess Diarist  was enlightening in more ways than one. Throughout the piece, Fisher shares with the reader that in her early adult years she was contemplating between who she was and who she wanted to be. The diary entries Fisher shares within this memoir are insightful as to who she was not only as an actress, but as a woman and a writer. Her poetry was beautiful and inspiring, followed by her prose that was intimate and eye-opening. Fisher clearly held more thoughts in her mind than most people, including being her worst critic. I find her ideas and thoughts intere...

Slow but Steady into 2018

With a new year comes new goals. Whether they be little or big, the achievement of these goals is highly rewarding and somewhat inspiring for other individuals to follow their own goals. For instance, creating this blog was a goal of mine to achieve. I've always wanted to share my thoughts and writing with people, while keeping the process simple. This small achievement for myself is exciting and I look forward to sharing more writing pieces with future interested readers. I hope to share some poetry, prose, and even book reviews! I also created a #bookstagram account for anyone interested in following: morebooksplease_
