Another YA romance novel for the books! I've been looking forward to reading Jenn Bennett's current
publication and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest! Bennett's story line was easy to follow, full of
descriptions and delved into numerous settings--both on and off the water!
Main character, Josie, has returned to her hometown of Beauty with her mother after five years of
roaming from place to place (out of necessity). Josie and her mother have an extremely strained
relationship and upon returning to Beauty, they've agreed to watch the family bookstore that's been
around for generations. Both Josie and her mother agree that they'd avoid any chaos or unwanted
attention, however, that's entirely unavoidable upon their return. Past time gossip and old memories
resurface for both ladies and Josie cannot bring herself to keep under the black blanket of stealth,
especially when her life-long best friend, Lucky, shows up hanging around the family bookshop
constantly. Romance blooms between the two of them after even more unfathomable circumstances arise
between them and the gossip-saturated town. Josie and her mother's relationship changes course for the
better and with that comes better relationships between all of the females within the family-line.
I'd HIGHLY recommend reading any and all of Bennett's YA romance novels. Bennett has this ability to
lure readers in with her amount of details, both with enhancing settings and surroundings within the
novel and individual characters as well. Page length is always at least 300+, which isn't intimidating
considering the flow through the novels chapter is done easily and efficiently. Endings are cordial
and most of all realistic! I've come to appreciate more current modern-day YA romance novels because
realistic beginnings/middles/endings are all relatable and that's what reading is mostly about--relating
or wanting to relate to something when escaping from everything else!
