Grains of sand settle slowly at the bottom of my hourglass as I stare outside and watch the snowflakes accumulate on the                                                                 ground I wonder if the sand will settle, similar to the flakes that mimic the dust piled on my bedside table-- representing past times and                                               future endeavors Accompanied frost and steaming heat encircle my hourglass and...

I've found some type of                          comfort looking up into the moon's                          light-- squinting my eyes, hopeful I could count the distances between                          the                     craters' depths                                                                 The beauty of that sphere in the sky-- a treasure of Bailey's lasso'd lady as if we could claim that planet, light years away                                        ...

It is not the new path this time but the matching driveway fresh concrete paved over decade old memories And those damn numbers crooked wooden burgundy reminders of where you began and wouldn’t end They aren’t there anymore hanging from the peeling blue siding 234 is scrawled in white paint on a black box atop a wooden post. I’m sure it holds letters for the new owners but never any from me to you I never wrote you letters because we never had to you were always there and I here all those years ago. But I’m still here— There is a fresh coat of paint in all nine rooms a new patio set that is no longer sage green and I’ve got two more years of finding myself in this big world. So, I decided to fill you in on me instead of waiting for you to inquire I couldn’t ask you to return home to a foreign place until you’re ready because I wouldn’t do the same if it was me. This is my better-late-than-never letter I hope you’ll...

We need to read AND write

So I went to Barnes & Noble the other night (needed some retail therapy) and ended up wandering aimlessly around the aisles for over an hour. I must have hit every section before I made my way over to the children’s corner. Not sure if I was feeling nostalgic or just curious as to what the youth of today was starting out to read. As I scoured shelves looking for old time Nancy Drew or Where the Sidewalk Ends , I heard this couple enter the area and couldn’t help but overhear their conversation.             “I just want to look for a book for her, just one. Can ya’ give me a minute?” The woman sounded exasperated, almost as if she couldn’t comprehend why her companion wasn’t understanding the need to look for the perfect book . It was his response that caught me, even though I shouldn’t have been so stung.             “You do realize kids today don’t read, right? What’...

Find Yourself again with a Little Luck

Jenna Evans Welch's second novel, Love & Luck , is an adventurous book filled with spontaneous decisions  and discussions of relatable heartbreak. The story follows a young woman, Addie, who travels with her family to Ireland for a destination wedding. Things take a turn when Addie and her closest brother, Ian, are destined to travel to Italy with each other in hopes to reconcile their construed relationship. The novel holds a good amount of underlying emotion and frustrations between the two siblings, but things are hashed out more towards the middle and end of the novel. Unfortunately, plans for Italy halt when Addie discovered Ian attempting a getaway with an Irish native, Rowan. Ian plans on touring around Ireland with Rowan in hopes to uncover information about his favorite band, Titletrack, and inevitably attend their final concert. Addie tags along in hopes to keep her brother out of trouble and maybe even force him into changing his mind, however, she is accompan...

Keep the Game Rolling...

This sequel to Stephanie Garber's novel, Caraval , was extraordinarily magical. Continuing right from the first novel's ending, Legendary  follows Donatella Dragna this time around. Scarlett was able to win Caraval and follow a love interest in the first novel, but now Tella has the opportunity to play in Caraval and make dangerous decisions to acquire more than just winning the game or finding true love--her mother is alive and waiting to be found. Paloma has a past that neither of the girls are aware of and Tella uncovers just how secretive she was while playing Caraval. There are even more characters added to this sequel, including royalty, love affairs, and some godly individuals. The amount of detail that was paramount in the first novel can't compare to the amount of detail thrown into this one. The costumes and apparel stuck out to me the most while reading--the intricate patterns, delicate colors and descriptive imagery all left a substantial impact on my reading ex...

Here's a Sneak Peek for the Ticket

Stephanie Garber's YA novel,  Caraval,  instantly caught my eye because of the marvelous cover. The magical colors and wisps mirrored what the synopsis of the story was as an overall whole. The setting introduces two sisters, Scarlett and Donatella Dragna, who live on the Isle of Trisda with their father, Governor Dragna. Their mother departed from them when they were children, causing a strain in the relationship between Governor Dragna and his daughters. Due to this relationship between them and a strong will of hope for something to change, Scarlett wrote to Master Legend of Caraval. I'd like to describe Caraval as a sort of carnival-ish, magical world that holds a number of secrets and magic. The descriptions and details are all within the pages of the book and should be explored with great concentration--I put this book down multiple times in order to accomplish other tasks and found myself questioning what was going on when I returned. I don't mean to say this as a n...
