The Art of the Sign

I've never really been an individual to truly, inadvertently believe in signs. I liked the idea of seeing things right after tragedy strikes and recognizing how those situations could relate somehow to what had occurred and presto!, a sign. Something/someone in this universe is giving me the notion that they, or whatever the situation may be, is going to be okay. Now, with this thought process forever living in the back of my mind, I've been searching for a sign these past few weeks and I believe I've received it. This sign isn't necessarily related to the idea that my deceased loved one(s) are okay, because I know that both of them are at peace and no longer suffering in pain. My sign was relative to what I've been contemplating these last few months and have had difficulty deciding on even more with these past few weeks. I have to write a book, or a compilation of short stories, but I want the book. I'm craving my ability to write a book and get its approv...

Mentalities

The common hashtag for Tuesdays is "#transformationtuesday" and I have to say I'm attempting to relate to it. Although no physical transformations have occurred (yet), I find myself moving towards a mental transformation. Writing for a few days, recognizing when my mental thinking is positive versus negative, and allowing myself to process it all. I have more to say, just not sure how to convey it. So my introduction to mental transformation begins here...

Monday Musings

Today was my first day as the Assistant Activities Director at my current job. I was promoted from an activities leader and began working at 8 AM. I was supposed to leave at 4 PM, but ended up staying until 8:30 to cover other shifts for fellow department employees. When I reached my peak point of coming home from an unexpected 12 hour shift, with activities both foreign and familiar occurring, I grew thankful for my day as opposed to just bitter about the entire unexpected situation. I am grateful for my car, Bertha, for not falling apart on me on my way to and home from work. Although she isn't entirely failing me, it is time to look for a new vehicle and that will occur soon. I am grateful for my health in that I was able to accomplish this 12 hour shift with ease, despite the exhaustion that overcame me during the drive home. I am grateful for my significant other for understanding my need to stay at work as a responsibility and also reminding me how great of a person I am to...

Food for Thought

I have not written for quite a while and I do apologize for that in case anyone was concerned about my absence. Although I do not want to assume anyone actually takes their time to read this, I would like to express my forward movement as to adamantly deciding on posting to my blog every day for these days to come. These past few months have been hectic, followed by these past few weeks that have just been bearable. I'll elaborate: I finished my first year of graduate school as an English and Innovative Writing student around mid-May and I could not be more relieved. The first year was both enlightening and challenging and while I enjoyed every minute of accumulating knowledge and expressing different views and critiques within my creative writing workshops, I was exhausted towards the end of the Spring semester and looked forward to ending school for summer break.I will continue to pursue my Master's this Fall, in light of writing a book (or compilation of short stories). I...

Grains of sand settle slowly at the bottom of my hourglass as I stare outside and watch the snowflakes accumulate on the                                                                 ground I wonder if the sand will settle, similar to the flakes that mimic the dust piled on my bedside table-- representing past times and                                               future endeavors Accompanied frost and steaming heat encircle my hourglass and...

I've found some type of                          comfort looking up into the moon's                          light-- squinting my eyes, hopeful I could count the distances between                          the                     craters' depths                                                                 The beauty of that sphere in the sky-- a treasure of Bailey's lasso'd lady as if we could claim that planet, light years away                                        ...

It is not the new path this time but the matching driveway fresh concrete paved over decade old memories And those damn numbers crooked wooden burgundy reminders of where you began and wouldn’t end They aren’t there anymore hanging from the peeling blue siding 234 is scrawled in white paint on a black box atop a wooden post. I’m sure it holds letters for the new owners but never any from me to you I never wrote you letters because we never had to you were always there and I here all those years ago. But I’m still here— There is a fresh coat of paint in all nine rooms a new patio set that is no longer sage green and I’ve got two more years of finding myself in this big world. So, I decided to fill you in on me instead of waiting for you to inquire I couldn’t ask you to return home to a foreign place until you’re ready because I wouldn’t do the same if it was me. This is my better-late-than-never letter I hope you’ll...
